This was included within our Mt. Vernon to and it was worth the trip. I was not expecting the mill to actually work. It was neat to see them operate the mill and see how fine the mill can get the corn meal.

The tour included interesting history and basic mill/brewery lessons. The buildings were not original but they seemed to be pretty good replicas. You get to watch the water-powered mill grind the raw product into flower and see it come out the other end.
No free samples of the liquer :(.

I just love old mills. Glad the general admission included this tour. If you are mechanically minded you can see all that it would take to put one of these together (the waterwheel and all the gears working together). Looked like high quality corn meal. Made me hungry for corn bread.

Awesome historical site. Not busy at all with ample parking and a shuttle that takes to the Mt Vernon house as well. They have a really nice gift shop, with whiskey and brandy sales too.....after 10am. All the "staff" are very knowledgeable and answer your questions thoroughly. Family friendly too. Dont forget to snag a bag of pancake mix or cornmeal...made on site...before you leave!

Not much here but it was a fantastic tour. If you have a Mount Vernon ticket it also works here. No need to buy a tour ticket. They start you in the mill. They start up the mill and grind some corn on the main level. Then you walk downstairs and watch the ground corn come out as flour. Then off to the distillery building. They only make whiskey once or twice a year. Not open to public the month they are brewing. Otherwise this building is available. They explain and show everything here. Great tour for kids of any age.
